Why Is the De Minimis Provision Critical in Taxes? - alex - 10-21-2026

Why does it make sense for a government to implement the de minimis provision? Firstly, because it is practical. In case a small amount or transaction is treated in the same way as a huge amount or transaction, it means that additional bureaucracy exists. The definition of de minimis is used when something is insignificant. The de minimis tax provision is a regulation that provides for an exception/threshold in some cases. But, how can we explain the de minimis meaning in general? It is a provision that provides proportional treatment for insignificant things.
