What role does a certificate authority play in online security?
#1
The certificate authority refers to a trusted third party responsible for authenticating the identity of a website or business or any person prior to issuance of the digital certificate. Digital certificates play a crucial role in establishing a secure connection in particular through HTTPS. Every time a user visits a secure website, his/her browser determines whether it uses the digital certificate which has been signed by a trusted third party. CAs (certificate authorities) play an essential role in PKI (public key infrastructure).
