Yukon Denali with the 6.2, should I be worried about lifter failure or is that just internet paranoia?
I'm in the market for a used 2018 or 2019 GMC Yukon Denali because we've got a third kid on the way and my wife flat out refuses to drive anything that doesn't have captain's chairs in the second row and a DVD player to keep the little monsters quiet on the drive to Abu Dhabi, and honestly I'm not mad about it because the Denali is just a really nice place to spend time compared to the basic Tahoe. But every time I get close to pulling the trigger on one I see another forum post or a TikTok mechanic warning about the AFM lifters collapsing on the 6.2 liter motors and taking out the camshaft with it, and the last thing I need is my wife giving me that "I told you we should have just leased a new Patrol" look while we're stranded on the side of the E311 in July with a boat anchor under the hood. I found a 2019 with relatively low klicks at a dealer near Dubai Festival City that looks clean but I really think I should line up a Dubai GMC Pre Purchase Inspection Service to plug in and see if there's any pending misfire codes or if the transmission has been doing that weird shudder thing the 8 speeds are known for when the fluid gets old. My main worry is whether a standard inspection place will even catch the early signs of lifter failure since it's not something you can see without pulling the valve covers, or if they just check the basics like brakes and suspension and call it a day. Anyone actually had a Denali inspected here and felt like they got the full story on the engine health before signing the papers?
